Water bodies are especially attractive to people looking for rest and relaxation. Treating nature carefully is particularly important to avoid damage to the sensitive ecosystems. The project Water:Trails, which was implemented together with Naturefriends Austria and the Austrian Federal Forests (Österreichische Bundesforste), aims to raise awareness of the special characteristics of water bodies and habitats close to water and to induce responsible leisure-time behaviour. From 2011 to 2015, different habitat complexes, from glaciers over streams and rivers to lakes and swamp forests, were at the heart of a plethora of activities.
