Leisure traffic is still mainly carried out by car. The thinning out of public transport in many classic hiking regions has accelerated this development - with the well-known negative consequences for our climate, but also for the quality of life of people living in regions with high traffic volumes.

Switching to train or bus makes a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and thus to climate protection - and at the same time, travel to and from the destination is usually less stressful than in your own car. The booklet "Umsteigen vorm Aufsteigen" ("Change to public traffic before ascending the mountains") presents all Austrian Naturefriends' huts that are located on hiking routes accessible by public transport and contains numerous tips for excursions in all seasons.
