Together we are strong – this is the motto under which Naturefriends and “Children of the Mountain” have been working tirelessly for years to build schools and kindergartens in the Nepalese mountain region of Tandrang.

Especially since the devastating earthquake in April 2015, Naturefriends aid to Nepal have had their hands full with providing aid on-site. The earthquake destroyed the livelihoods of many people and hit the poorest of the poor: The inhabitants of the Tandrang region, the Dalit, count among the lowest and poorest Hindu caste. Good education is often inaccessible to them.

Opening schools is a first step towards a better future. In spring 2018, the children of Shankar were able to go back to school after their old school had been destroyed by the earthquake. The “girls first” principle of the new schools benefits particularly girls, who often face greater difficulties than boys.

Besides financial support, Austrian Naturefriends also participate actively in construction work. Naturefriends Lower Austria organise trekking journeys during which participants, after their trekking tour, assist in the construction of the schools for several days.
