Piano on the mountain – music for our planet

On 5 July 2025, the high alpine landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park became the stage for a very special event: pianist and mountaineer Chiara Schmidt transformed the area around the melting Goldbergkees glacier at over 2,000 metres above sea level into a place of musical and emotional encounter.

As part of the opening of the new ‘Glacier Ice and Gold Rush’ nature trail by the Austrian Naturefriends Youth and as part of the ‘SDGs in Motion’ project, an extraordinary glacier concert took place. Against the impressive backdrop of the Hoher Sonnblick, Chiara Schmidt performed the work ‘Three Passions for our Tortured Planet’ by American composer Brian Field.

With this concert, the artist succeeded in creating a unique musical plea for more climate protection and, at the same time, a declaration of love for our fragile planet. Music and nature combined to form a powerful appeal: the effects of the climate crisis are real and all around us – the time to act is NOW. The concert was a moving moment for the participants that will remain in their memories for a long time to come.

Thank you to Chiara Schmidt and her team, to the Austrian Naturefriends Youth and everyone else who made this special event possible, where art, nature and commitment came together and reminded us how important it is to work together to protect our environment.
