Climate Hike Knofeleben
The Climate Hike Knofeleben takes us through impressive scenery up to the Naturfreundehaus Knofeleben at 1,250 metres above sea level.
On 23 July 2025, Naturefriends International invited participants in the Naturefriends Youth Climate Dreams Tour to take part in a special climate hike up the Knofeleben. The hike began at the historic Payerbach-Reichenau railway station and led through impressive countryside with beautiful views for two and a half hours up to the Knofeleben Naturefriends House at 1,250 metres above sea level.
In recent years, there have been several forest fires in the area, which was also the overarching theme of this climate hike. Regina Hrbek, head of the Nature, Environmental Protection and Hut Management Department at Naturefriends Austria and a regional expert, drew the participants' attention to hidden natural treasures along the way and enriched the hike with local anecdotes and historical insights.
The hike was framed by various environmental education methods such as the “Value game’, “Having A Closer Look”. and, as a positive conclusion, ‘Climate Anxiety Reframing’.
