The landscape at the mouth of the Danube River is a mosaic of swamps, extensive reed beds, offshore islands and sand dunes habitat for many rare and protected animal and plant species. In the surroundings of the small village of Sfantu Gheorge, a special Natura Trail invites you to get to know the diverse fauna and flora.

The trail was created in the course of the international Naturefriends campaign "Landscape of the Year Danube Delta" in cooperation with the local school with the enthusiastic participation of the pupils. Together with the project team of Naturefriends and staff of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, they prepared the information about selected species such as the impressive pelicans or the shy European pond terrapin.

The flyers were published in Romanian and English language and distributed in the Biosphere Reserve's visitor centres and in regional pensions and hotels. As with all Natura Trails, the aim was to raise awareness of biological diversity and motivate people to spend a mindful time in nature.
