A Feminist Future!

On 16 May 2025, the Analog studio in Vienna was filled with the voices, creativity and thoughts of young female activists participating in the Feminist Futures event. The self-help event for young activists, organised in collaboration with Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE), welcomed 14 participants aged 18-30 from diverse backgrounds who shared a common commitment to feminist values and an interest in mental well-being.

Feminist Futures was designed as a half-day retreat offering practical tools and collective reflection on how to take care of oneself while engaging in activism. Based on the WAVE toolkit ‘Feminist Self-Care for Young Activists,’ the event emphasised that self-care is not a luxury, but a political and emotional necessity—especially in today's often overwhelming climate of activism and global challenges.

The four-hour programme was a mix of interactive discussions, creative expression and exchange among like-minded people: participants explored personal and collective stress factors through guided discussions and exercises and shared strategies for building resilience. In a practical group activity, participants used collage as a medium for reflection and self-expression, leading to meaningful conversations about identity, calmness and resistance. The event fostered a safe, welcoming atmosphere in which young activists enjoyed delicious vegetarian snacks and lunch while networking, sharing experiences and building a supportive community.

The event also highlighted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on SDGs 3: “Good Health and Well-Being”, 5: “Gender Equality” and 17: “Partnerships for the Goals”. By intertwining mental health, feminist practice and global goals, Feminist Futures ultimately embodied the belief that well-being and activism go hand in hand!

The success of the event once again highlights the growing need for safe spaces where young female activists can reflect, recharge and reconnect.
