Local Events during May

In May, we organized two local events as part of the TRAILS project, giving interested people the chance to learn more about trail maintenance.

Our first event took place on May 10 in Naßwald. Together with an experienced trail maintainer, we marked two new trails around Naßwald. The group of around 10 people was split up and the two teams then set off on their own. The participants had great fun putting themselves in the shoes of the hikers and thinking about where the next marking would fit best. This stimulated exciting discussions about the relevance of trail maintenance and some of the participants were enthusiastic about getting involved again in the future. After a few hours of work, the day was rounded off with a meal together in the afternoon. Three of the participants then shared their experiences with us, which you can watch here.

The second event took place on May 26 at the Weichtalhaus. The Wasserleitungsweg from Kaiserbrunn is currently being extended there. So far, you can hike from Hirschwang an der Rax along the Schwarza to Kaiserbrunn, but the connection to the Weichtalhaus is still missing. This part of the trail has now been tackled together with the federal trail team and the Linz local group. The group consisted of some who have been involved in trail maintenance for a long time and some who were new to the work. The versatility of alpine trail work was well experienced here and everyone could really enjoy the day. The work continued in the days that followed and the trail can hopefully be opened this year.
