Natura Trails, launched by Naturefriends International, have become a real hit. More than 150 themed trails leading through Germany’s Natura 2000 areas invite all those looking for rest and relaxation to experience the beauty and diversity of European protected areas. The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness for Natura 2000 areas. A set of criteria and recommendations support committed volunteers in establishing a Natura Trail in a Natura 2000 area in their vicinity.

Numerous local groups regularly organise activities along the trails in order to point to the importance of protecting our natural heritage. Thus, Natura Trails are a sign not only for the protection of our environment, but also for excellent cooperation of many committed people.

One of the highlights was the Natura 2000 award of the European Commission that Naturefriends Baden-Wuerttemberg were presented with in 2015. The award acknowledges excellent campaigns that showcase the value of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas. With Natura Trails, Naturefriends achieved just that!
