Community Based Tourism

Community-based tourism means participation and involvement of the local population living in tourism destinations. This ideally creates socially responsible, participatory tourism based on local structures that the local population benefits from.

Insights into every-day practice
A lot of know-know, experience and knowledge about the local social, economic and environmental structures is necessary for such projects to be successful. There is no one-size-fits-all approach for successful development of community-based tourism. Our tourism_LOG provides insights into every-day practices, as people from all over the world describe their projects and experiences, both positive and negative ones.
Our journey takes us to Senegal, the Gambia, Uganda, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Brazil; on the Chocolate Road through Bolivia and all the way to Australia. Besides insights into every-day practices, the articles also discuss whether community-based tourism can be an answer to excessively growing tourism ("over-tourism") and why great projects are put on hold so often.
